Tribunal rules that employee who drank 10 pints and told his boss what he thought was unfairly dismissed...!

Sometimes I like to share things with you that make me smile (or grimace, depending upon how I feel).  Last week I saw a headline that made me do both.  The headline in question read:

"Man who downed 10 beers and told his boss to F off at works Christmas party, wins claim for unfair dismissal..."

On reading the article further It turns out that some bloke in Australia got drunk at his works Christmas party (let’s face it, we have all been there at some point in our lives?).  The ‘gentleman’ in questions then proceeded to sexually harass one of his colleagues before approaching his boss to tell him to ‘F--- Off’ (I am not going to pretend that we have all done that – just in case you were going to ask!)

On returning to work in January he was told he was fired and I think that most people would agree that the decision was quite justified?

But THEN, an employment tribunal ruled he had been “unfairly dismissed, in part because unlimited quantities of alcohol were served.”

UNBELIEVABLE!

The article didn’t give the blokes identity so he couldn’t be named and shamed, but since when did it become the business owners’ responsibility to dictate how much their fully-grown, adult employees do or don’t drink?!

Is it just me? Am I being unfair?  Are we all responsible for our own actions?

Unless someone physically holds you down, forces your mouth open and pours drink down it. How much you drink is down to you. No one else!

This is a bit like going to an all you can eat buffet and then suing the restaurant because you suffered with a stomach-ache due to the amount of food you stuffed down your own throat!

But, rant over, back to business – and there is a link here (stick with me)

The only person responsible for whatever situation you find yourself in right now is YOU

That means that IF you look at your bank statement and you’re not happy with what you see, it’s because of YOU

That means that if you don’t get to spend enough time with your partner because you’re working long hours with little reward, it’s because of YOU

And if you miss your kids growing up because you were never there to tuck them in at night, it’s because of YOU

And trust me – there is not an employment tribunal in the land that will bail you out of this situation

So when are you going to do something about it!? YOUR destiny is in YOUR hands – no one else is responsible for your success, there is no one to blame if you do not achieve your goals
